Rescue Dogs are Different – meet and greet dog walking groups

🐾RESCUE DOGS ARE DIFFERENT🐾

“Hi, I’m Dexter, a dog who used to live on the beach in The Gambia, West Africa. Life was unpredictable and pretty tough at times, but I got by. Now, I walk and run in the beautiful woods of Chobham, Surrey – and I have a new mission…”

I’m starting a friendly dog-walking group that includes your humans!

Why “Rescue Dogs are Different”? Because, well… we are. Not worse. Not broken. Just…different.

Some of us are wary. Some of us are brave. Some of us love everyone. And, some of us need a little extra time. But we all have stories to share, and we do best when we’re understood. If you find group walks challenging, don’t worry; we’ll take it slow. I’m a very social dog and sometimes I help others to build their confidence.

“Dogs do speak, but only to those who know how to listen.” – Orhan Pamuk

What’s the idea?

🐾 Regular relaxed, informal meet-ups and group walks in and around Chobham, where dogs can safely meet, either on or off lead. Small groups, a positive atmosphere, and no pressure.

🐾 A chance for us dogs from different parts of the world – along with our quirks, unique personalities – to socialise and explore in a supportive setting.

🐾 A gathering for your humans, who want to connect with others who “get it” –  swap stories, challenges, and tips about life with a rescue.

🐾 If you’re a bit nervous, don’t worry; I love helping shy pups find their paws 🐾

🐾 This is not exclusive to rescues! All friendly dogs are welcome.

Curious? Want to join?

We’d love to meet you. Bring your stories, your snacks, your sensitive souls.  This is a space for kindness, not perfection.

Dexter’s journey from The Gambia to Surrey, via France…

August, 2022 – Over the many years, of living and working in The Gambia, for the past ten plus of those years we have had the privilege of taking care of a pack of the sweetest rescue dogs from the beach at the house for The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust charity (GHDT) whenever we are in town. A year and a half ago, a dedicated team of volunteer vets from GHDT came to set up one of their regular neutering, micro-chipping, and vaccination clinics in the compound of the house where we stay. Stray dogs and cats, from around the area are brought in and given either, or all, of the aforementioned. Dexter was one of the dogs who came to the clinic that day. We had previously seen him roaming on our local beach, over the space of a few months, and he always, very timidly, came up to greet us – as most stray beach dogs do. Almost all of them crave a little love and attention. However, we noticed that the other stray dogs around the beach tended to chase him off. One of the local guys, who also takes care of some of the strays on the beach, told us that this particular dog was called ‘Dexter’… Read more Dexter Dog Travels: Banjul-Paris-London.
