DOGS TALK…if we learn how to listen
Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is “Canine Body Language Coaching”? Unlike traditional obedience classes that focus on cues like “sit” and “stay,” my “Walk & Learn” sessions focus on communication. I teach you how to read the subtle physical cues your dog is giving you so you can understand their emotional state. When you understand the why behind a behaviour, training becomes much easier.
Do you use treats/rewards or “corrections”? My approach is strictly rooted in positive reinforcement and force-free methods. I believe that building a bond based on mutual respect and understanding is far more effective (and kinder) than using fear or pressure.
Is this only for “problem” dogs? Not at all! While I love working with rescue dogs, these sessions are for all dogs! Learning the language of your dog is the best way to prevent future problems and deepen the bond with a brand-new puppy or a longtime family companion.

SUITABILITY
Can my children come to the “Walk & Learn” sessions? Absolutely. In fact, I encourage it! Learning as a family ensures everyone is on the same page and communicating with the dog in a consistent, supportive way.
What if my dog is reactive or aggressive toward other dogs? Your dog is incredibly welcome. Because my “Walk & Learn” sessions mainly take place in public spaces, the most important step is letting me know about any specific triggers on your initial consultation form. Once I understand your dogs needs, we will tailor the session to keep them safe:
- The Right Environment: We will carefully select a very quiet location, a wider trail, or a private secure field
- Staying “Under Threshold”: We will move at a distance where your dog feels entirely safe
My ultimate goal is to create a peaceful space where you can learn from your dog. If a dog becomes “flooded” (overloaded) with stress and fear, their nervous system shuts down -which means your learning is impaired, and your dog’s wellbeing is compromised. By managing the environment together, we ensure a gentle, force-free experience for everyone.
Is this a substitute for a veterinary visit? No. If your dog has had a sudden change in behaviour, I always recommend a veterinary check-up first. Many behavioural shifts are actually rooted in physical pain or discomfort.
I have more than one dog, can I bring them with me? Yes, but it is preferable that there are no more than two dogs per session.

*Safety is key: For dogs who may be nervous or reactive, I can suggest secure field locations that you can book in advance (approximately £10-15ph – cost to be covered by owner). Alternatively, we can use recommended quiet areas where you like to take your dog out walking.
